The All-Star Baseball baseball video game series was developed and published by Acclaim Entertainment. The series began in 1997 with the release of All-Star Baseball '97 Featuring Frank Thomas, the successor to Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball. New York Yankees play-by-play announcers John Sterling and Michael Kay were the announcers for 1998-2000 editions of the game. The final release in the series (due to the bankruptcy of Acclaim) is All-Star Baseball 2005. Within the individual games, there are several different modes of play, such as exhibition, managing an existing Major League Baseball team or creating a team. Many North American cities are available for "expansion," in addition to Mexico City and Puerto Rico. Most of the games feature Derek Jeter on the cover.

In Home Run Derby Mode, players can compete in an eight-player elimination tournament and try to hit as many home runs as possible before getting 10 outs. Behind the microphone for Triple Play 2002 will be a new broadcast team: award winning broadcaster Bob Costas doing play-by-play with color commentary provided by ESPN Baseball Tonight analyst Harold Reynolds.

Re-written from the ground up, this rookie title includes a Homerun Showdown (not a derby - something a little different) and Franchise mode as well as the usual exhibition games. Many custom batting and pitching animations as well as vendors hawking hot-dogs and hecklers shouting player and team specific heckles - all in an effort to submerse you in the game.

Triple Play 98 features all 30 major league stadiums, but not all 30 team rosters. This game was released prior to the expansion draft of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Their team logos are included and the rosters can be filled from a list of free agents. Six modes of play include: exhibition, season, playoffs, home run derby, all-star, and practice. Trading players and the ability to create your own are two available options. Many stats are tracked through season play and plenty of camera angles are available during gameplay. Play by play is provided with color commentary by announcers Jim Hughson and Buck Martinez. Triple Play 98 requires one to five memory card blocks to save a game.

All 28 Major League Baseball parks, 3D-modeled and with slick intro cinematics for each showing the camera flying down into the park from above. Informative play-by-play color commentary. Multiplayer with up to 8 players is possible with two Multitaps on the PlayStation version or up to 6 players on the PC version via modem connection or Gravis gamepads. Gameplay modes include Exhibition, Series, All-Star, Playoffs, Season, and Home Run Derby.
